The First Class Petty Officers aboard the United States USS Ramage DDG-61 requested to have their FCPOA shirts created and wanted a design that suggested a variety of things with respect to their attitudes, opinions, rank and responsibilities of being a 1st Class Petty Petty Officer on board a US Navy warship.
The design created for them represents a naval character with strong limbs but one stronger than the other as evidenced by the crow strapped to it. The crow is symbolic of the rank of the 1st Classes and suggests the power and responsibility this rank has as an integral part of the US Navy rank structure. The barbel has the ship's hull number 61 on it and illustrates the connection this sailor has with the ship, the USS Ramage.
USS Ramage (DDG-61) is an Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer of the United States Navy. The ship was named in honor of Vice Admiral Lawson P. Ramage, a notable submarine commander and Medal of Honor recipient in World War Two.
Ramage was first laid down 4 January 1993 at the Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula, Mississippi, launched 11 February 1994, sponsored by Barbara Ramage (wife of the admiral), and commissioned 22 July 1995.
